I recently came across an old note written in my grandmother’s hand. The words on that old, yellowed sheet of paper reveal a timeless wisdom:

If you want to dodge wrong, do right.
If you want to jump high, don’t live low.
If you want the world right, start with yourself.
If you must publish someone’s faults, publish your own.
If you brood over your troubles, you will have a perfect hatch.
If you want to see the devil run, shoot him with the gospel gun.
If you have an attack of genuine Christianity, it will be contagious.
If you are half-hearted, you cannot expect more than half blessing.
If you want Christ to acknowledge you, see that you acknowledge Him.
If you want to keep the town clean, be sure to sweep before your own door.
If you think you are too small to do big things, then do small things in a big way.
If you marry into the devil’s family, you are sure to have trouble with your father-in-law.
If you would adopt the advice you give to other people, this would be a fine world to live in.
If you are about our Father’s business, you will not have time to fool around with the devil’s works.
